The Sun’s front page story on Feb. 21 about the staff and services at UF’s Small Animal Hospital was well deserved. Our 9½-year-old labradoodle, Mulligan Sue, has had two stifle surgeries over the last three years there. His post-op rehabilitation in the integrative medicine department, led by Dr. Justin Shmalberg and his team, worked with us to ensure Mulligan’s successful recovery. The rehabilitation plan included laser therapy, ultrasound, acupuncture, massage and underwater treadmill exercise along with large doses of TLC.

We selected Gainesville as our retirement nest because of the energy of a university town and its superior “people” medicine. We sure got a bonus when we experienced the excellent veterinary medicine for our therapy dog. Thanks to all of the professionals who made a difference to us and to Mulligan. We are lucky to have such specialty care services and equipment in our town.
