Veterinary Dermatology specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of all companion animals with skin diseases, management of chronic ear diseases and immunological dermatoses such as autoimmune skin diseases, food reactions and atopic dermatitis.

We are committed to providing excellent patient care and client service with the expertise of our board-certified veterinary specialists, staff veterinarians, and our licensed veterinary technician. Our service is available for evaluation and rechecks each week, Monday through Friday.  We are located within the UF Small Animal Hospital, 2015 SW 16th Avenue, Gainesville, Florida 32608.  To make an appointment, please call the UF Small Animal Hospital at (352) 392-2235.

What to Expect

Upon arriving at the UF Small Animal Hospital, you and your pet will be placed in an exam room by one of our client liaisons. A third- or fourth-year veterinary student will come in and introduce themselves and start taking a history, as well as perform a physical examination on your pet. After this information is gathered, the student will step out of the room to discuss your case with the Dermatologist. Both the student and the doctor will return to the exam room to discuss their initial assessment with you, along with any additional diagnostic recommendations and a proposed treatment plan.

Dermatology evaluations can be time-consuming, so please prepare for a longer visit (typically 2-4 hours, depending on what is recommended). Typically, skin and/or ear cytology is gathered as part of the minimum database needed in the assessment of your pet for both evaluations and recheck visits. We may ask that you leave your pet with us during this time so that we may complete our evaluation and provide you with a detailed treatment plan.

We realize that your time is valuable and will do everything possible to address your situation in a timely fashion. At the same time, we appreciate your understanding that it is important that we take the time necessary to provide the absolute best care possible for your pet.
